The fight against music piracy took a drastic turn today, when the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced it prosecute anyone telling their friends about new music. The RIAA is the trade organization that represents the major recording labels. They said:
We will aggressively prosecute those individuals who attempt to pirate our property by generating ‘buzz’ about any proprietary music, movies, or software, or enjoy same in the company of anyone other than themselves.
This is going to be a serious problem for my friends and I, because we talk about new bands all the time. Looks like we’re going underground.

Here are a few images from our volunteering weekend in Chester, PA. It was a really amazing experience, and we got to talk to a lot of fantastic people. One of them was an 18 year-old African American woman who was voting for the first time. I’d love to visit her again and see how she feels now knowing that her vote helped to get Barack Obama elected President. You can view the entire set over at Flickr.

And of course, the best part of the two trips: The true Philly Cheese steak. This one was from Pat’s:

I’m sure it will come as no surprise to most, but the results of last night’s President election have brought me considerable joy. America spoke last night, and spoke loudly that we need a new direction. I’ve been writing a lot about some experiences I had this weekend and my thoughts on the election, but for now these thoughts will have to remain notes and bullet points in my Moleskine. I don’t have enough time right now to flush them into a coherent piece.
More soon (I hope).

I should have posted this a very long time ago. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama several weeks ago and directly addressed the question of Mr. Obama’s faith. Watch the whole thing below.

This is a pretty amazing post on how people have viewed the McCains versus the Obama’s in this election. I hope some of you will read it and take a moment to think about the “elitist” comments waged against Senator Obama.
I’ve seen these in different places throughout the web, and wanted to put them in one place, because they are hilarious.

At least she was able to recite the same Republican talking points we’ve heard for the last 7 years. Maybe before her next interview, Bush’s speechwriters will fill her in on what the Bush Doctrine is.

The Republicans are really grasping for straws on this one:
But the other thing about her, she does know about international relations, because she is right up there in Alaska. Right next to Russia.

You know, she, her, the experience that she comes from is, is, with what she’s done in the government. And also remember, Alaska is the closest part of our continent to Russia.

I have a feeling this fall’s soundbites are going to be good ones. Here are the videos in their entirety:

Many have argued that Obama is not ready to be President, that he is too young. Perhaps. I think we can be sure that he will make mistakes. Then again, what President hasn’t?
Republicans, think of your dream President, Ronald Reagan. Did he make some bad judgment calls? I’d say we can probably find one or two decisions that he made, and agree that they were bad calls. Democrats, how about our favorite President? JFK, perhaps? Let’s take the Bay of Bigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis as examples. Every President is bound to make mistakes. It’s the nature of the job.
What impresses me about Barack Obama, and makes me think that he is ready for the job, is that I think he has the patience to make decisions. He has the temperament to consider all of the options before him, and to make a wise, informed decision. I’m not worried that he’ll lie to the country in order to go to war.
Obama is idealistic, for sure. However, I think he is realistic as well. He will be willing work with Congress. This is clearly something that President Bush hasn’t done.
I’m looking forward to the debates. I think they’ll be much better than the Kerry v. Bush debates!
Here is Senator Obama’s speech, accepting the Democratic nomination for President.
