Many have argued that Obama is not ready to be President, that he is too young. Perhaps. I think we can be sure that he will make mistakes. Then again, what President hasn’t?
Republicans, think of your dream President, Ronald Reagan. Did he make some bad judgment calls? I’d say we can probably find one or two decisions that he made, and agree that they were bad calls. Democrats, how about our favorite President? JFK, perhaps? Let’s take the Bay of Bigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis as examples. Every President is bound to make mistakes. It’s the nature of the job.
What impresses me about Barack Obama, and makes me think that he is ready for the job, is that I think he has the patience to make decisions. He has the temperament to consider all of the options before him, and to make a wise, informed decision. I’m not worried that he’ll lie to the country in order to go to war.
Obama is idealistic, for sure. However, I think he is realistic as well. He will be willing work with Congress. This is clearly something that President Bush hasn’t done.
I’m looking forward to the debates. I think they’ll be much better than the Kerry v. Bush debates!
Here is Senator Obama’s speech, accepting the Democratic nomination for President.
