War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today.
~ John F. Kennedy
Blogging takes time. Even though I don’t usually write much, it still seems to take up more time than I can commit on any regular basis. In order to keep a more timely recording of things I’ve found interesting, I decided to start a Tumblog. Tumblr is a site that allows you to post quotes, links, photos that you stumble on as you surf the web. You can see my Tumblog at http://vassego.tumblr.com/ and keep up with what I’m stumbling on as I roam the information superhighway.
National Geographic will be live webcasting the Náttúra concert in Iceland, at which Sigur Rós and Bjork are playing. You can view the webcast at the Nat Geo Music website at 7pm GMT, Saturday, June 28.
As a reminder, Sigur Rós’ new album, Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust, is available in stores now, and it’s beautiful.
I am fortunate to have a local soccer club that gives its fans an incredible amount of freedom. The United value their fans so much that they don’t care if they wear their clothes or not…well, actually, they don’t care if guys take off their shirts:
As evidenced at United games for years, the passion of our supporters cannot possibly be contained by clothing. In extreme cases, Luciano Emilio goals have even prompted fans to spontaneously disrobe.
~ DC United VP of Communications, Doug Hicks
Apparently this is in stark contract to another local Washington sports club that shall remain nameless (but not linkless).

VirginAmerica seems to be doing a lot of things correctly. The least of which is their website design. I was recently pricing some flights to San Francisco from Washington Dulles International and found this great system for deciding which flights to take:
If you click on the larger image, you’ll see that VirginAmerica tells you immediately how much changing the days of your flight will cost. There’s no need to change your dates and search again. You can see all the prices up-front, and change things as you see fit. I hope more airline and other travel websites see this and implement similar systems.
I’ve become a tremendous fan of futbol (soccer) in the last year. It all started with my good friend, Steve, convincing me to attend a D.C. United game with him. After 20 minutes, I was hooked. The supporters jumped and sang chants for the entire game. Every time a goal was scored, beer flew in the air (an expensive celebration at stadiums, I assure you). The energy at soccer games in unrivaled, and cannot be experienced unless you attend a professional game. I only hope someday I can attend a Premier League game in England, Serie A in Italy, or the Spanish Primavera.
Alas, I digress…Sports Illustrated recently published an opinion piece by Chris Mannix where he explains his conversion from soccer hater to soccer appreciator. It’s a great piece, and I hope it will spur more Americans into giving the World’s most popular sport a chance.
Jon Stewart had a great clip on Monday about the media’s ridiculous reporting on the lies spreading about Barack Obama via email. Here’s the clip:

David Byrne is one of my favorite musicians. He was the lead singer of the Talking Heads until their breakup in 1991. The Talking Heads pushed the boundaries of music by combining vastly disparate genres.
In his post-Talking Heads life, Byrne has continued to push music and art. He has converted old buildings into instruments before, and has recently done this again in New York. Below is a video on the project.
I want more, more, mmmooorrre…
Via Signal v. Noise, I saw this post of an amazing car design by BMW. Be sure to watch the video in its entirety.
I love seeing companies take a chance like this and put what I can only imagine is substantive research & development dollars into a very cool experiment.
