New Attire

I’ve finally received a new tee shirt I’ve been eagerly waiting for:

In case you’re wondering what the back looks like:

Dana says my geekdom has again emerged too much, but I think that those that can write code, especially pleasant (x)html should take pride in their work. After all, others take great pride in their professions and hobbies why shouldn’t web designers?

Oops…

I was perusing Apple.com just now and ran into a little problem with their site while performing a search:

Nintendo Wii Bringing Newcomers to Gaming

The Chicago Tribune has an interesting piece about the new Nintendo Wii and its effect on gaming in a Chicago-area retirement home. It’s nice to see that the Wii has been able to bring people into gaming that haven’t otherwise been able (or willing) to try it before.

The Wii has become so popular at Sedgebrook that on Sunday afternoon there will be a video game bowling tournament in the lounge. More than 20 residents have signed up to compete.

We have the Wii and love it, in fact Dana and I were just trying out WarioWare: Smooth Moves, which we rented from Gamefly.

I feel sorry for everyone who spent $600 on the Playstation 3: they got great graphics, but they also got a power-hungry console that doesn’t do much to change the experience of gaming beyond the visual aspects. Hopefully the Wii will continue to open doors to the joy that is gaming.

Broken Image Stamp

I ran across this amusing stamp today. It’s the broken image icon from the old Netscape web browser.

Customer Service

It’s been awhile since I’ve complained about something here, and I’m beginning to feel remiss in my “blogging duties.” Tonight I’ve found cause to gripe, and was this response to an inquiry of a major bug at photo-sharing site flickr:

[Flickr Case 216086] Re: Other Issues

vassego,

Just a quick email from Team Flickr to let you know that we’ve successfully received your recent Help by Email query and we hope to respond within 11 days.

We’d also like to take an opportunity to remind you that one query is sufficient and multiple queries regarding the same issue make the Magic Donkey cry.

Lastly, you may not be aware that our FAQs and forums are full of help goodness:

emphasis mine

11 days! Thanks Flickr. That is an abysmal excuse for customer service.

In case you’re curious, the problem is other people’s images showing up on my photo stream. If you notice something out of the order while browsing my photos at flickr, this is why.

Snowy Days in DC

It’s been quite chilly in Washington lately. The chills have also brought some of our beloved snow.

Lincoln Park in the Snow
I caught this image of our neighborhood park, Lincoln Park, the morning after the large snowfall

We received about 2 inches of snow last week and today it snowed again for another 1/2 inch or so.

Dana and I went to Pan’s Labyrinth today. We were both very surprised as to how the film evolved. However, we both liked the film a great deal. It was incredibly intense, but written and acted very well. The story was beautiful, yet sad, but you walked away with a remainder of hope - and that is important.

Tonight we are watching Everything Is Illuminated: it’s a heart-warming film about a young-man trying to find the woman that saved his grand-father during World War II. It’s touching, yet mildly humorous. I highly recommend it.

Flying Cat

Well, it’s been a really long time since I’ve posted anything. I’ve been busy rewriting some code at work; I’m re-writing a website into web-standards compliant code. Last week I wrote somewhere around 2,000 lines of code. It’s good practice and a great way to spend time when things are quiet.

Dana and I had a really chill weekend, and have for the past couple of weekends. We’re looking to do something special next weekend since neither of us have to work on Monday. Tuesday, I have to install a new server at work, so that’ll be an interesting project again.

I did manage to capture a pretty wield photo of Stewart this weekend, check it out here:
