I recently found this link on the Doves.net site. I’m not sure what it’s supposed to be, but it’s interesting for those Doves fans out there!

Wow, I just got wind that Beck is playing a surprise show here in DC at the Black Cat. I’m not very happy I didn’t hear about this earlier. This guy can sell-out venues 5 times the size of the Black Cat…oh well….
Orrin Hatch is a terrible Senator. He might be a nice guy, but come on people, this guy made it illegal to play DVDs on Linux! He also said that roast your computer if you download material illegally. Oh yeah, and then some rather smart individuals discovered that he was using some code on his official Senate website that was not licensed to him.
Well, the Senate would be much better off if Pete Ashdown were to win. Ashdown started XMission, the largest ISP in Utah. Having someone in the Senate that understands technical issues, would be a huge benefit to techinical policy. Not to mention, all of my other problems with Mr. Hatch…but that’s another rant.
If you’re so inclined to donate money to a campaign this fall, I’d encourage you to assist Mr. Ashdown. He needs it.
Thanks to Travis for a link to this interesting piece in the New York Times Magazine on White House Press Secretary Tony Show. It offers an interesting insight into the differing communication styles of his predecessors, Ari Fleischer and Scott McClellan, and suggests that maybe the Bush Administration is finally recognizing that they can’t just keep jamming message down people’s throats and expect to drink the proverbial Kool-Aid.
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted some lyrics of music I’ve been enjoying. Well, I’ve been listening to a lot of M. Ward lately, and I thought it would only be appropriate if I shared some lyrics of his with y’all.
This song opens Mr. Ward’s most recent record, Post-War. It’s a sweet lullaby portraying the sunny and poisonous sides of love.
M. Ward - “Poison Cup” from Post-War
One
One
One
One or two won’t do
Cos I want it allAnd a sip
A sip
A sip or a spoonful won’t do
No, I want it allAnd I hope
I hope
Hope you know what I’m thinking of
I want all of your love
I need all of your loveShe said “If love
If Love
Is a posion cup
Then drink it up”“Cos a sip
A sip
Or a spoonful won’t do
Won’t do nothing for you
Except mess you up”And I hope
I hope
Hope you know what this means
I’m gonna give you everything
I’m gonna give you everything
Dana and I are about to head to The Decemberists at the 9:30 Club.
Keep an eye on NPR’s webcast page, for their webcast of the concert tomorrow night. We wish it was tonight!
Last night I had the pleasure of seeing one of the hardest working bands in the biz, The Wrens at The Black Cat here in DC. Most of the tracks were off The Meadowlands, unfortunately, I didn’t keep notes on a setlist though. I was fortunate enough however to be a Wren during “This Boy Is Exhausted,” and here’s the drumstick to prove it:
For anyone who is able to attend one of the remaining dates below, be sure to look at The 5th Wren information on The Wrens’ website. The 5th Wren is your chance to be a Wren for a song! Unfortunately, I noticed this about an hour before the show. Currently, “Hopeless” is the only song they’re offering this chance for, but they say more will be offered soon.

Well, as you may have noticed the design of the site took a big change over the course of today. I’ve implemented a new theme, K2. I hope to be refining over time, but it will probably stay this for awhile.
A couple notes on some cool features:
- Notice the rolling archives at the top of the page: You can slide this bar back in time to see previous posts, rather than using the month-by-month links on the right sidebar.
- The search box will return results in the middle section as you type them! This works from any page, and if you click the “x” appearing at the end of the search box, your results will disappear, replacing the center content with whatever should be there.
Let me know what you think in the comments, good or bad, I’m totally open for suggestions.
For those of you who think I want to be a computer nerd forever: you are wrong.
I found this post at the Eurasia Foundation the other day. It’s exactly what I’d love to do some day. For now, I’m happy where I am, and I’m definitely not qualified for this, but maybe some day!
Wow, the New York Times has an interesting piece about laptops being seized at borders for no rhyme or reason.
“One member who responded to our survey said she has been waiting for a year to get her laptop and its contents back,” said Susan Gurley, the group’s executive director. “She said it was randomly seized. And since she hasn’t been arrested, I assume she was just a regular business traveler, not a criminal.”
I guess we’d better hope for her sake that she had no proprietary company data on her computer, if so it’s most likely been comprimised at this point.
This brings an entirely different meaning to homeland security…
