It looks like I am doomed to battle mold in DC. As some of you know, the first place I lived in when I moved to DC was seriously gross. The basement had such bad leaks that the carpet actually floated about 4 different times during heavy rain. Not all of the carpet, mind you, but a lot more than should be floating! The landlord didn’t really want to commit the funds or the time to getting it fixed, so we agreed that I could just leave. Half of the staircase going upstairs was black with mold too. Yuck.
Well, last week, Dana and I found mold in the corner of our new home. As some of you may know, our place is brand new; we’re the first people to live there. Stewart, our lovable kitten kept investigating this corner of our living room, and I always figured he had just lost a toy or something there and was never too concerned. Well, last weekend I lifted up my subwoofer and looked, and he had been smelling mold! It completely destroyed my subwoofer, and has also gotten into our entertainment center. The entertainment center is also unsalvageable.
Our landlord has been great about working with us to fix everything, and so has the company that manages the condos, but it’s still a really big inconvenience. The leak has been fixed, thankfully. Turns out it was our neighbors anyway.
