I’m going into the doctor today to get my head cut up. It’s basically going to be a really big cut, right on top of my head to try and remove any traces of the malignant cells. If you’re totally confused as to what I’m talking about, you want to read some earlier posts.
Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and wishes.
update: Hi all, everything went fine with the surgery. Although, I have a pretty big dent in my head in the place where the cut off the problem area, and 8 stitches. I’m feeling pretty decent though, and will probably be back at work tomorrow afternoon. Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers.
I found a pretty interesting article at the San Francisco chronicle in which the author goes to great lengths to say that it doesn’t matter that Apple computer has moved to Intel chips rather than their previous PowerPC chips which were built by IBM and Motorola. He quotes several individuals he found on the street around San Francisco whom say that it doesn’t matter how their computers work.
This guy should seriously not be writing about technology if he doesn’t understand the importance of the move to Intel chips from the PowerPC processors. First of all, all operating systems (i.e. Microsoft Windows, Linux, MacOSX) are built based upon something called operating codes, which are programmed into the hardware of each and every processor. Also, each processor’s operating codes are different. So, Intel’s op-codes differ from the PowerPC chips. Actually, it’s quite likely that a new Apple with an Intel processor could run Windows. In fact, I think I’m going to email this guy a link to this very article. It’s kind of techy, but it makes A LOT of difference which processor Apple is using, and some of this the general consumer needs to know, not just us nerdy-types
This is a very nerdy rant, for which I apologize, but such are the things that interest me on occassion.
It looks like I am doomed to battle mold in DC. As some of you know, the first place I lived in when I moved to DC was seriously gross. The basement had such bad leaks that the carpet actually floated about 4 different times during heavy rain. Not all of the carpet, mind you, but a lot more than should be floating! The landlord didn’t really want to commit the funds or the time to getting it fixed, so we agreed that I could just leave. Half of the staircase going upstairs was black with mold too. Yuck.
Well, last week, Dana and I found mold in the corner of our new home. As some of you may know, our place is brand new; we’re the first people to live there. Stewart, our lovable kitten kept investigating this corner of our living room, and I always figured he had just lost a toy or something there and was never too concerned. Well, last weekend I lifted up my subwoofer and looked, and he had been smelling mold! It completely destroyed my subwoofer, and has also gotten into our entertainment center. The entertainment center is also unsalvageable.
Our landlord has been great about working with us to fix everything, and so has the company that manages the condos, but it’s still a really big inconvenience. The leak has been fixed, thankfully. Turns out it was our neighbors anyway.
Yes, someone has a video on the interweb where they acted out the old NES game, Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!
I made a cool little update to my home page…I added a link to a page that displays what music I’m listening to that second (if I’m listening to music, or what music I recently listened to. There is also a chronology of Top Artists, Top Albums, etc…
Check it out!
We had a great holiday at home. It was great to see family and a few friends. We got some great presents too! I’m currently watching one of them, “Stop Making Sense - The Talking Heads.” (thanks T!).
In case you don’t check my home page, check it out! I’ve revamped the looks again.
An update on the skin cancer bit:
I received a copy of the pathology report, and it states that the malignant cells are at the juncture of the dermis and epidermis. This is good news, because it means that the malignant cells haven’t penetrated the dermis, where blood vessels lie, although it’s definitely close. I’ll be getting surgery at the end of January to get a larger piece removed from my head, and it’ll be a pretty big scar, but it’s obviously worth it.
Dana and I have been battling colds for way too long, so we haven’t done much for excitement, but I don’t think either of us are ready to go back to work. Holiday is much too enjoyable!
I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Years and holiday.
