New Header

Hey! Check out my new pics at the top of the page! I took them all by myself w/ my new camera.

I’ll probably rotate this every once in awhile as I get out and get more pictures taken.

Updated Homepage

So you probably won’t be able to notice much difference in my home page, unless you look at the HTML and CSS, but I spent alot of time recoding it today. I’m learning more and more about designing web pages using CSS and I soon hope to completely redo my home page using W3C standards.

Indie-super label to fight the Corporate Mega labels

Tiny Mix Tapes reports:

125 independent labels recently formed a new trade group, which intends to increase their market share and shift some attention away from the four majors (Universal, Warner Music, Sony BMG, EMI).

Hopefully, this will help independent artists to get a more fair share of the music market. Because we all like them better!

Even More American Culture In China

The BBC reports that the number of obese Chinese youth is increasing by 8%/year. They point to a more sedentary lifestyle, which is certainly becoming more common among the affluent in China, and the larger cities. I just wonder though, how much of the outlying provinces are taken into account in this report? While I certainly believe that the major cities and provinces could be experience trends like this, I find it hard to believe the outlying provinces are undergoing the same trends. However, if they are taken into account, it would be very interesting to see how their health trends compare to those in the cities.

It’s disappointing to see that when “development” occurs in so many countries, the negative aspects of that development that we see in America, seem to get exported along with it. This makes me continue to be skeptical of the terms, “developed” and “under-developed” when describing different parts of the world.

What makes me most anxious about every country striving to become like America is the amount of resources that are required to sustain that sort of “development.” I’ve found this quiz makes me extremely conscious about how I consume. I hope you will all check it out and take notes.

My stats from the quiz (my advice, don’t fly as much as I do!):

CATEGORY ACRES
FOOD 5.9
MOBILITY 5.9
SHELTER 5.2
GOODS/SERVICES 10.1
TOTAL FOOTPRINT 27

IN COMPARISON, THE AVERAGE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN YOUR COUNTRY IS 24 ACRES PER PERSON.

WORLDWIDE, THERE EXIST 4.5 BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE ACRES PER PERSON.

IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE ME, WE WOULD NEED 6.1 PLANETS.

Pink Floyd Reunites!

Wow, what I’d give to see this show.

Roger Water, David Gilmore, Rick Wright, and Nick Mason have decided to reunite for Live 8, the concert that aims to attempt to persuade the G8 conference to assist the world’s poor.
