Arcade Fire - Wake Up video

bradley’s almanac has the video for Wake Up.

Thanks Solace.

Great web segments on Great Bands

Turnpike, a music show based in Lawrence, KS, has two great segments: one on the Arcade Fire, the other on Old Canes. The Arcade Fire are the much raved about band from Montreal. Old Canes is a side project of Appleseed Cast frontman Chris Crisci.

The Arcade Fire’s official site is here.

Napolean Dynamite meets the Postal Service

Jared Hess, the Director of Napolean Dynamite directed the video for the Postal Service’s “We Will Become Silhouettes.”

Progressive Christians

Sojourner has an autoform on their site to send to your Congressperson stating that the President’s “budget reflects a set of priorities that stand in clear opposition to biblical values.” It’s great to see progressive Christians pointing out the fact that cutting benefits for people who need them is not loving your neighbor as yourself. Send it to your Congressperson here.

Social Security Calculator

This is way behind other blogs’ postings, but this definitely needs to be spread around:
Social Security Calculator.
The Senate Democrats have posted a calculator that allows you to configure how much your Social Security benefits will decrease under the Bush privitization plan. I lose over 30%. Please, please spread this as far as you can; people really need to understand the lunacy of the privitization proposal. Wouldn’t it be great though if we had something that would be say, an individual retirement account….Oh wait….IRA’s have been around for decades. They’re investments; social security is insurance. Bush’s plan is lunacy, spread the calculator’s good word: http://democrats.senate.gov/ss/calc.html.

Former President Jimmy Carter A Freedom-hater? WTF?

Discussing the Iraqi elections, Powerline
says Former President Jimmy Carter is “on the other side.” How can someone call Former President Carter a freedom-hater? It’s beyond me how the Republican attack-machine can continual work to destroy great Americans.

At least Chairman Dean has begun what we can only hope will be a fiery Chairmanship with his comments on Gregory Mankiw (he’s the guy who said that outsourcing isn’t a big deal…):

“If only this administration’s champion of outsourcing had been outsourced himself earlier maybe we wouldn’t have had four years of stagnant job creation and record outsourcing overseas.”

Good work Chairman

Arcade Fire Interview @ Pitchforkmedia.com

Thanks for letting me borrow that Solace.

Grammy Awards

Ray Charles cleaned up last night, which is great. He was an amazing composer who brought a lot to the music world. However, I have “Genius Loves Company” and it’s definitely not album of the year, nor does it contain the song of the year. I have to do a bit of friendly promotion here and rant about The Arcade Fire, this is definitely the album of year last year. It’s amazing, and if you haven’t heard it, go buy it now.

Dr. Democrat Dean

Dems as expected appointed Dr. Howard Dean to chair of the DNC. His energy and publicity should be good for the party, but hopefully the traditional media won’t brand him as the “yar”-man. Most importantly though, what kind of peanut butter does he like?

Constantine

I just saw the ad for the newest Keanu-saves-the-world flick Constantine…anyone else sick of this guy saving Earth? He annoys me.
